Kiwi birds are unique in that they are flightless and have small, vestigial wings. They are native to New Zealand and are known for their distinctive brown, fuzzy feathers and long, downward-curving beak. Despite their size (about the size of a chicken), kiwis are known for being territorial and can be quite aggressive when threatened. Their diet consists mainly of insects, worms, and fruit. Unfortunately, kiwi birds are endangered due to habitat destruction and introduced predators such as stoats and feral cats. Conservation efforts are in place to help protect these iconic birds and ensure their survival for future generations.
